Where in the Bible is ten years mentioned? I knew an elder who had been disfellowshipped a couple of times for his drinking problem. Actually looking back, it was probably around 10 years before he was appointed. He lost his position because his daughter was fond of fornicating. She didn't live in his house when that happened. I know the DO was involved in the punishment. Don't know the details.

Best Disfellowshipping Comeback?
by slimboyfat inthat paragon of christian virtue, j f rutherford, had the following to say on the merit of wholehearted forgiveness:there is a maxim among men: 'i can forgive, but not forget.
' this does not proceed from the lord, but proceeds from the devil... when one repents and asks forgiveness, the forgiveness should be complete and absolute, even as the lord forgave us.

Wouldn't peer pressure and/or ridicule be more effective than legislation? It must be nice living in a place where politicos have nothing better to do. Of course, here in the states politicians are constantly proposing and passing laws and ordinances that are 1) pretty much unenforceable and 2) stupid. Here's the link:

I spent 5 years working for a government contractor. I would travel overseas for 6-12 months at a time with 3-6 months off in between. I met a lot of really great people while I was in that line of work and did get to see things that most people only read about or watch on TV. After a while it was just another job with long, long commutes. As the saying goes, "I wish I was where I was when I was wishing I was here."

Making real friends
by choosing life ini have been away from the meetings for about a year now.
i recently attended a funeral and the witnesses mostly avoided me even though i am not disfellowshipped.
my problem is i need to replace my old friends because they look at me with such suspicion now.. i never had trouble making friends before i was a witness, but that was 30 years ago.

A while back I was confronted with a laundry list of health issues (blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, etc)...a real wake up call. Instead of immediatley going on a bunch of drugs I thought I would give my body a chance to fix itself by changing my diet and exercising (I promise I'm not off topic). The main exercise I chose was walking eventually getting up to 10,000 steps most days. I do most of my walking in my neighborhood and an unexpected benefit of walking was the number of people I met. I've chatted with dozens of people around here and a few of them are now pretty good friends. Admittedly a couple of people I've met were people I would have preferred not to encounter, but for the most part it has been a positive experience. Now when I go into shops, resturants, and bars around here, I always run into people I know from my walks. The best friend you could ever have might be living just down the street.

I really like reading posts like this. I started college at age 33. It took 6 years to finish my bachelors as I was working full time. But I did it. If I can earn a degree, anyone can (I'm pretty dense). I've taken a few grad courses. Maybe I'll finish it...
Good for you, Genesis.

Why did you choose your USER NAME?
by In Between ini think some people actually use part of their real name.
i chose mine because i really feel 'in between', in that space where your not a jw anymore but really haven't figured out where you are in life and what path you want to take.
just thought it would be an interesting topic.

Way back in the 20th century, I bought my first computer. It was 1995 or 96. One of the first things I did went I got online with a company called Prodigy was key in Jehovah's Witnesses in a search engine. A site called Tishies Support Board for Ex-JW's came up. The sub-title of the board was You Are Not Alone. I picked frozen as my nick name because I had been working in Antarctica for a while before I moved here, I didn't have a job at the time, I was taking college classes with a bunch of punk 18 year olds (I was in my 30's), and I was having doubts about not going to the hall in my new town. Then I found Tishie's site, found out I wasn't alone, and it felt like I was coming in from the cold. When I joined this board I brought the name along in case anyone from Tishie's board was here and remembered me. I had to add "one" though because I couldn't get frozen to register.

Ann Coulter.
by Blueblades inwhat are your thoughts about her?
there has been some controversy about her lately.
anyone read her book the godless?.

Ann Coulter is the far right version of the far left's Randi Rhodes (on Air America). I can only take either one of them for a few minutes at a time. I don't think Randi Rhodes has ever written a book. If someone could get Rhodes and Coulter to do a death cage match I'd pay to watch it.
